Production of Antibodies to Na-PAS in Rabbits and Guinea Pigs

Abstract
the characters of serum components induced by drug treatments in experimental
animals were observed by means of various serological tests.
The Na-PAS mixed with Freund¢¥s adjuvant was injected to rabbits and guinea pigs: intradermally, subcutaneously, and intramuscularly. All experimental animals were treated again with the same agent by smearing on the scarified dorsal skin once a week for 4 weeks. Fourteen days after the last treatment the animals were bled, and the sera were tested serologically; precipitation, complement fixation, hemagglutination, modified hemolytic reaction, hemagglutination inhibition, and Prausnitz-Kustner tests. One day after the bleeding, intradermal tests were performed with Na-PAS, procaine, aspirin and INH.
The summarized results are as follows:
I.-. No precipitin was detected by any of the precipitation techniques.
2.. The sera of animals treated showed negative in complement fixation test.
3. Four of six rabbits and all guinea pigs treated showed positive hemagglutination and modified hemolytic reactions.
4. The positive reactions of the blocking test by hemagglutination inhibition and Prausnitz-Kustner tests may indicate the production of the specific circulating antibodies to Na-PAS in the animals.
5. The positive intradermal tests to PABA in the animals treated with Na-PAS suggest that aromatic ring of both chemicals may be responsible for the cross reaction.
